The Great Lakes Library offers a wide selection of items for check-out, including books, audio books, CDs, DVDs, and magazines. The collection includes popular fiction, science fiction/fantasy, graphic novels, classics, and non-fiction. Services available include computers with Internet access, free wireless Internet for your personal devices, printing, copying, and scanning. We also offer a music service, Freegal, that gives you 5 free song downloads per week and 3 hours of streaming per day.
The MWR Library has copies of all the books featured in the Navy Professional Reading Program. The program was developed to encourage life-long reading and learning. Click on the link above to visit their page and see the current list of titles.
The library has an area dedicated to college and career materials. Here you will find study guides for all the CLEP and DANTES tests. Plus, we have guides for other tests, including the ASVAB, ACT, SAT, and GRE. Need help with school work? We can help you find the resources you need to finish that paper or project.
The library has a variety of fun games and toys. Stop in to play chess, Scrabble, Bookopoly, or Ninja Dice, to name a few. Or, explore and build with our Legos, Snap Circuits, GoldieBlox kits, and more. You can also get creative in our craft room. We have a Cricut machine, scrapbooking and stamping supplies, a drawing table, pencils, sketchpads, and craft books. Or, just come to read and relax in our cozy fireplace area.
The MWR Library welcomes children. We provide a child-friendly room, complete with pint-sized furniture. The children’s area also has an early literacy computer and a Smart Table, both containing numerous activities to promote learning for Pre-K through 4th grade. Throughout the year we offer several reading programs for children and a story time for preschoolers. From home, you can access TumbleBooks, an online collection of animated, talking picture books.
Many valuable resources are now easily accessible through the Navy Digital Library website and can be used on your personal devices without a CAC. These include e-books and audiobooks, popular magazines, a language learning site, full text journal articles, genealogy and investment tools, DIY resources, newspapers, numerous continuing education classes, and help from a live tutor. Stop in or call if you need help finding or using any of the resources.
How are we doing? We value your feedback and would like to hear from you.
