The Sailing Center and Marina is a great place to enjoy recreational boating and fishing in the Hampton Roads area! At the Naval Station Norfolk Sailing Center you can learn to sail, kayak, rent boats and fishing gear, and enjoy a relaxing time on the water. The Sailing Center offers boating classes for adults and summer camps for children as well as a wide array of rental boats including kayaks and paddleboards, power boats for fishing and water skiing, and a fleet of over 50 sailboats from dinghies to cruising keelboats. The Marina offers 200 deep water slips, conference rooms with waterfront views, a nearby fishing pier, boat ramp, ice, bait and fishing supplies, complementary pump out service, marina store, free WiFi internet, and dinghy storage

Adult Sailing Program
US Sailing Basic Keelboat Course
In this course, you will learn the basics of sailing on board our Colgate 26. Instruction topics include: leaving and returning to the dock, sail handling, general seamanship, anchoring, safety procedures, sailing theory and points of sailing, tides, weather forecasts, rules of the road, sail trim, and more. Course dates are offered on select weekends from May through September or weekday private lessons to fit your schedule.
Cost per person: $125 (Two-day class) - Registration includes the two-day course with on-water training, textbook and log book, one-year US Sailing membership and US Sailing Certification and NNSC sailing endorsement.
US Sailing SMALL BOAT Course
Learn the basics of sailing aboard small sailboats including our lasers and 420s. Topics will include basic terminology, rigging, and sail theory. Upon completion, participants can rent our Lasers, 420s or Hobie Waves.
Course dates are offered on select weekends in July and August or weekday private lessons to fit your schedule.
Cost per person: $225 (Two-day class) - Registration includes the two-day course with on-water training, textbook and log book, and NNSC sailing endorsement card.
Additional Sailing Opportunities
First Sail: Interested in learning how to sail? The First Sail is a unique opportunity to introduce newcomers to the sport of sailing while aboard a two-hour leisurely sail on Willoughby Bay with one of our certified instructors.
Cost per person: $50
Private Lessons: Schedule one-on-one instruction tailored to accommodate your schedule. Private lessons allow you to refresh, refine, or certify skills. All skill levels are welcome! Cost: $25 per hour
Check Ride: Interested in renting from Norfolk Naval Sailing Center? Check rides are for sailors who do not currently possess an NNSC endorsement, but have a nationally recognized sailing certification and would like to become eligible to rent our vessels. Upon verification, you will receive the Norfolk Naval Sailing endorsement.
Cost: $25 per hour (two-hour minimum)
US Sailing Challenge: Patrons with sailing knowledge and experience who do not possess a nationally recognized certification can opt out of the full course with this challenge. This is not a substitute for structured training, it is for candidates who are familiar with the US Sailing PRACTICAL and WRITTEN standards.
Cost per person: $100 - Includes US Sailing certification, one-year US-Sailing Membership, and an NNSC sailing endorsement
